Tired of
eating slop?
Don't jump to any conclusions, this article is not about the
unsavory food served in your town's local greazzzy-fried chicken
shack; where the Friday Fish&Chips special is deep-fried in 3-week
old pork fat.
This article is about a different kind of eating. More specifically,
this article concerns the things which we feed the inner part of
ourselves. You see, the type of Christian you are is to a large
degree based upon the type of spiritual diet you maintain.
One may ask: "How can the spiritual/inner side of a person eat?" The
answer to this question is straight forward: the concepts and ideas
that you allow to dwell in your mind, and thus in your spirit, is
the eating done by the inner part of you. Through your senses, you
eat by means of the books that you read; you eat by the TV programs
that you watch; you eat by the radio stations that you listen to;
you eat by the music you enjoy; you even eat on the telephone as you
share in conversation with your friend.
Now slop is defined as: "food waste (as garbage) or a thin gruel fed
to animals" Thus, when one takes pleasure in/digests books, radio
programs, and etc. that promote rotten ideas that God would consider
garbage, that person is eating slop in a metaphorical sense.
As Christians, when we waste our days watching/consuming the diet of
day-time soap operas (which are filled with the portrayal of the
most depraved sins), our spirits become sickly. When we spend hours
on the phone gossiping, our soul becomes stuffed with garbage. We
then have a more difficult time resisting the temptation to sin. If
we find ourselves taking pleasure watching others practice sinful
acts, I am afraid that sin may have already taken root (see Romans
1:32). Let me be perfectly clear: I am not referring to sinful
thoughts that may pop up in a Christian's mind, where the Christian
exerts mental effort to reject/and expel the thought. I am crying
against the Christian that seeks enjoyment from programs, books, and
etc. that promote concepts that are contrary to the lifestyle of a
Christian as defined by the Bible.
Just imagine if you took your meals from the hog's slop bucket. Your
body would probably become weaker and weaker due to consuming
unsanitary rotten food which does not contain proper nourishment for
the human body. Your body would eventually be overtaken by disease
and sickness because the human body is not designed to subsist on
the slop dumped in the hog pen. The reason why you have so many
Christians who are so easily taken over by acts of rage and violence
may be due to a diet of slop - that has made their spiritual side
weak and eventually subject to death. A dead spirit will not allow a
person to act in obedience to God's will.
It's not just lay members, but many who are called to ministerial
callings eat a constant diet of the slop of violence. It is no
wonder that large numbers of "Christians" carry pistols in their
brief cases and purses right next to their Bibles.
Yes, we can make excuses why we eat what we eat; we can say that the
slop does not affect us. But, it does affect us if we are eating
slop; whether it's violent books, violent movies, or even our
"sacred" violent sports. Yes, violent sports! How can we sit and
watch two persons literally beat each other bloody in a ring, and
enjoy it and say "Blessed are the peace makers…" Again, take a look
at Romans 1:32 which shows we are not to even seek enjoyment in
watching others do evil. So, you better turn off wrestling shows
that portray men and women scratching, biting, choking and beating
each other with chairs.
