That last bomb that Karen
dropped before closing the door left Bob disturbed and unable to go
back to his game on television. Bob and his wife had been saving for
three years, a little at a time, in order to afford their big two
week trip to the island paradise of Hawaii. All that night he tossed
and turned and woke the next morning drenched in perspiration. He
kept hearing Karen's claim that his father was not really alive.
Then he kept thinking about the Hawaii trip. After struggling a few
more hours, Bob convinced himself that his father really was not
alive and that an extra dose of sleeping pills would allow his
father to gracefully float away into eternity where he could be at
peace and rest. "Yes, that's it" Bob tried to convince himself:" I
am doing this for my father's benefit.
When Bob called his niece later that evening, he tried to gently
introduce the idea of letting her grandpa sleep away. When Karen
picked up on what he was hinting at, Bob was a little shocked to
find that Karen not only agreed with his plan, but had taken the
liberty of locating two medical professionals that would do away
with her grandpa for a modest fee. Bob was sick in the pit of his
stomach, but he saw no other way to offload the financial and
time-consuming responsibility of caring for his father. Bob simply
said:" Do what you have to do. I'll pay my share of the fee; But I
don't want to know till after it's done, and I want no part of
making the arrangements." The next morning Karen did not have to
call Bob and tell him what had happened - it was staring him in the
face on the morning local television news as the news anchorwoman
read the flash: "This is just in from the news desk:"
Local senior citizen found dead.
The man was apparently pulled from his bed.
The assailants then tore a hole in his scull with a
sharp instrument and pulled part of the victim's brain
from the cranial cavity thereby causing immediate death.
The news report ended but Bob had already left the room. Bob leaned
over the toilet seat vomiting until his guts felt twisted in knots.
Murder had not been as easy as he thought.
This story is fictional. But the next time you are debating partial
birth abortion, think about the reality of how close this story
depicts what people are actually doing.
